Washington Workplace Inducted into A-SPAN Hall of Fame

April 15, 2008

A-SPAN, the Arlington Street People's Assistance Network, inducted Washington Workplace into the A-SPAN Volunteer Hall of Fame on Thursday, May 7th during its annual Spring event. The Hall of Fame honors local supporters who donate their time and resources to A-SPAN's programs on behalf of the homeless in Arlington.

Since partnering with A-SPAN five years ago, Washington Workplace and its employees have served close to 5000 meals to the homeless. Twice each month, Washington Workplace president John Murphy and his staff of dedicated volunteers buy, prepare and serve meals at two different locations in Arlington as part of A-SPAN's Homeless Bagged Meals Program.

We all really enjoy our time together planning, preparing and serving meals to those who wouldn't otherwise have one, says John Murphy. It fills an obvious need and builds camaraderie among the staff.

A-SPAN gratefully relies on wonderful community partners like Washington Workplace who provide financial support, as well as the meals and manpower to serve Arlington's homeless population, adds Kathy Sibert, A-SPAN's Executive Director. Especially at this time when we face unprecedented increases in the numbers of street homeless who rely on A-SPAN to meet their most basic needs. John Murphy and Washington Workplace are a perfect example of how a business can join A-SPAN to really make a difference.
