Washington Worlplace Client, The Arlington Free Clinic, Receives Design Awards

As reported in the Meyer Foundation, Tuesday, November 10, 2009

Washington Workplace client, the Arlington Free Clinic, is the recipient of four prestigious design awards. It's new facility fosters a healthy environment for patients and staff, while also reducing energy use.

The four awards recognizing the clinic's unique architecture, design and furnishing are:

  • Washington Business Journal award for Green Building Design

  • Health Care Facilities Symposium award for changing the face of health care design through innovation, creativity, efficiency and teamwork

  • Washington Metro Chapter of the American Society of Interior Designers award for a health care or long-term care clinic and

  • Washington Chapter of the American Institute of Architects Presidential Citation for Sustainable Design

The 15-year-old clinic relocated to its permanent home in a newly constructed building in South Arlington in May 2009. The Washington, D.C. architectural firm Perkins+Will, Inc., and Arlington builder Bognet Construction Associates, incorporated energy-efficient features into the clinic's design, such as improved ventilation and lighting systems, ENERGY STAR appliances, and recycled and other building materials that reduce the risk of infection. The new design also fosters a quieter and less stressful environment for patients and staff. Washington Workplace provided it's expertise with LEED-compliant product selections and sourcing.  All contributed to the AFC in their efforts to secure  LEED silver status.

Both firms donated significant amounts of time and labor. Washington Workplace, a local Arlington business, provided furniture at a substantially reduced cost to the clinic.
