John Murphy, President of Washington Workplace, Awarded First "Doing Good" Award by Arlington Free Clinic

Tuesday, May 22. 2012

Nancy Pallesen, Executive Director of the Arlington Free Clinic announced Tuesday, May 22, 2012 that 'one of our own', John Murphy, President of Washington Workplace, was awarded the 1st "Doing Good" Award at the Arlington Chamber of Commerce Best Business Awards Breakfast.  This award was made possible by the Philip M. Keating Fund for the Future.  John is a current Community Advisor and a former member of the AFC Board of Directors, serving as AFC Board Chair 2006-2008.

The Award was to honor and recognize an Arlingtonian who has made a significant positive difference in both the business community and in not-for-profit organizations. Highlights include his leadership roles with both the Arlington Chamber and Leadership Arlington, the Arlington Food Assistance Center and numerous other organizations. He serves our community with wisdom, compassion, leadership and a sincere interest in all that he undertakes.

John stated that he wants to change the often used statement "Giving Back' to just "Giving" because 'Giving Back' seems to indicate that the person is giving because he/she got something first.  Each of us can 'Give".  And this was said off the cuff this morning because the award was a complete surprise to him.  John's contact information is jmurphy@washingtonworkplace.com and (703) 979-7835 ext. 121.
